"Valle Camonica hosts several places where nature is still unpolluted,
but hosts historical places as well. The whole territory is full
of traces of ancient civilizations.
We can find evidence of human civilization dated back to 8 - 9000
years before Christ. In the following centuries a local culture
begins to grow up: the culture of the ancient Camunians. Today,
this culture is totally extinct and is still mysterious. The whole
Camunian civilization has been handed down through rock art samples.
The UNESCO appointed these samples as a cultural legacy of the whole
humankind.
The municipalities and the voluntary service associations handle
several museums, to show the vitality of the local civilization
to every tourist. Museums are related both to the ancient and the
contemporary culture.
Churches, monasteries and different sacred places of the Christian
tradition are particularly meaningful as well. Tourists visit the
religious places and grounds of Valle Camonica looking for artistic
beauties, but they also look for an intimate relationship with the
Sacred and the Holy."
